Necromunda. Van Saar conversion. Part3.
There, I consider these done. I think they turned out ok. I have some more plans for Van Saar but I have some other stuff I want to get done before that.

A small update on a slow moving project. But I like where they are going. Exited to get them finished and use them in the next campaign.
I decided to add some plasma to the Van Saar suit. Instead of removing one claw I just added the plasma. According to the rules one of the four claws can be replaced by the plasma. I will just run it as if the power pack can’t support all weapons so one of the claws will be powered off :) . I think it works.
So, the idea was to make some quick conversations for some van saar juves. It is always a good idea to check the rules before you build stuff, unfortunately I am not that kind of a guy. So once the conversions was done I had a look at the book. I quickly realized that juves can’t take lasrifles. So what started as a quick and simple conversion became a much more extensive project. But at last I am finished. They look a little different from the rest of the gang but I think they will fit right in.
Happy holidays! With the Christmas holiday comes some free time for hobby work. I was able to finish my Van Saar Servo suit. I think it turned out really nice.
Last weekend I played my first game of Necromunda. I have already signed up on the ongoing campaign but this was my first game day.
The gang got some XP and I earned some credits.
For all my earnings I bought an arachni-rig servo-suit. I used it in one game (with a proxy), can’t say it made an massive impression on me. But it brings a fun conversion possibility. Let’s hope it earns its place in the gang once it gets a real model :) .
So after the commission and the Necromunda team the floodgates where opened. Instead of doing one thing I ended up doing all of them.
These 3 projects is just a handful of stuff I have been working on, trying to pick a direction for my hobby work. I actually enjoy the chaos that is my hobby station at the moment and the non direction I am taking. But it does not make for any great blog posts.
But here is some kind of updates on what is going on at them moment.
I am going to repaint my iron warriors breacher squad. Paint up the Magos dominos I have had laying around for quite some time. And build/convert my own version of Archmagos Inar Satarael.
Lets see if I can stick to these 3 projects before I head off in another direction.
And here is the finished result :) .
Finally we have the bases. I start with spray paint the bases. First with black and then with a red/brown spray. The bases is washed with Agrax Earthshade.
Once the wash has dry I dry brush the bases with Zandri Dust.
To give the bases a metallic feel I paint some of the edges with Leadbelcher.
Finally I paint the rim of the bases black.
For the eye lenses and plasma glow I started to paint the area with P3 Khador Red Base.
I wash around the red areas with Reikland Fleshshade.
After that I Add Khador Red Highlight to get a brighter glow on both eyes and plasma.
To add a little OSL I mix Khador Red Base with Khorne Red and paint areas that would be hit by the glow.
Finally I mix white and Khador Red Highlight to add an even brighter glow at the core of the plasma
Time for the rest of the highlights. I start with all leather straps and bags. For this I use a mix of XV 88 and P3 Battlefield Brown.
The white hair is first painted with a mix of white and Grey. About a 50/50 mix. Then I add some streaks with the same colors but with more white. In this case it is about a mix of 80/20 white.
Last highlight step is the armor. For this I use P3 Arcane Blue.
Next is to add highlights on everything. Starting with the black areas. I add P3 Thronwood green as an initial highlight.
For some of the guns this method looks a little messy. In these areas I wash them with nuln oil. And then highlight the area with a darker grey.
The silver/metal is first highlighted with Lead Belcher.
And all brass is highlighted with Runelord Brass.
Time for the skin. I first paint the midtone with a mix of P3 Khardic Flesh and Army Painter matt white. About a 50/50 blend.
After that I add the highlights of the skin with the same colors but with a mix of 70% white and 30% flesh color.
Last I add shadows with just the Flesh color.
The end result is in my humble opinion a relatively okay color scheme for the skin. You can obviously do a lot more but for quick and simple it is quite effective.
Leader straps, bags and other fabrics is painted with P3 Battlefield Brown.
After that I add Runelord Brass to all the copper parts.
And last before skin and highlights I wash all metals and leathers with Agrax Earthshade and hit some parts with some Seraphim Sepia.
Next step I paint the underlying mesh armor with contrast Black Templar.
Next is painting black areas with….black..
And metal areas with Leadbelcher.
I thought I could break down how I paint up these Van Saar models. It is a relatively quick and easy color scheme. It might not win any awards but I think it turns out quite ok.
first step is to spray everything in the new contrast spray paint. The grey one.
After that I cover the entire model with terradon turquoise. You get a ok coverage with these paints very quickly. If disregarding drying times, the whole step takes a couple of minutes.
Next step I mix P3 arcane blue and contrast terradon turquoise. I use this mix to paint in some surface highlights and to smooth out some of the bigger areas.
Dont mix to much at once, the paint drys very quick.
Next little project on the table is Necromunda. Since it’s re release I have wanted to get into the game. But thanks to different circumstances I haven’t had the possibility until now.
I have not played a single game yet but I have a feeling that this game is up my alley :) .
In the background, in between the commission and the Word Bearers Land Raider, I have been working on my second Thanatar. I really enjoy painting these big robots. The first one is more of a conversion so it is nice to also have the original model as well.
Parallel to the commission, I have painted up a word bearers land raider. I can’t really get my head around this force at all. Half of the time I just want to sell it all off. And other times I get super inspired to continue. I keep adding to them so slowly the force grows in size. I will try to put the force on the battle field soon so I can feel the power of the dark gods ;) .
With the last brush strokes on the Land Raider the commission is finished. I like how they turned out. Almost makes me inspired to make my own force ;) .
