Horus Heresy. World eaters. Apothecary. Praetor.

And here we are. The two final models is completed for my first world eaters list.

So this army took more or less 3 months to finish.

The interesting part about this army is that it was almost free. Most of the models and parts I have used have been leftovers from other projects or stuff I got from trades.

The only real purchase I have done have been the apothecary, 10 chain axes and 10 jump packs.

Now I will try to play some games with this army before I do any other purchases for world eaters.

I would love to get some red butchers and a spartan. But we will see how well this list preform before any one of those 2 units end up at my painting desk.

Horus Heresy. Iron Warriors. Praevian

A very small update on my iron warriors for a upcoming list using the rite of war “brethren of iron”.

Two new praevians with some different war gear options then my other praevians. These two only have bolsters and added armor. Idea is that they will control each a unit of castellax with dark fire cannons. So they don’t need any fancy close combat weapon.

For anyone with an eye for details, you can see that these guys have a different basing then the rest of my iron warriors. The truth is actually that I have been re-basing the whole army in the background. I will take some new pictures once the entire army have been updated.

Horus Heresy. World Eaters. Apothecary.

A very small update. Two apothecarys, one for the existing assault squad and one for the future and upcoming one.

I based these two models on two old rapier teams and some kit bashing. I think they turn out alright.

One of them are also carrying a “easter egg”, one of the jump packs is actually an old storm boy (ork) jump pack. I think it works pretty well. The differences is not astronomical and it will be a happy surprise for anyone spotting it :) .

Horus Heresy. World eaters. Predators.

Here we have the latest addition to my world eaters force. Two predators with plasma executioners and las cannon sponsons. And one with predator cannon and las cannon sponsons. I have no idea if these 3 will earn there place in the army or fall flat on the face. But they look cool.

i don’t know why I like the old school predators so much. If I compare the old ones with the new version from Forgeworld I can’t say that the old ones hold up in comparison. But I think it is the nostalgia. I had two old predator back in the day. Loved it to bits. Actually the two predators I have in my iron warriors army is the very same. I have had them since second edition. They have seen hundreds of battlefront and have faced thousands of enemies. It is a nice thought to bring them back in to service again. So with these 3 new (old) predators, time to bring them back in to service ones again. The veterans of the dark millennium!

Horus Heresy. Imperial militia. Platoon commander. Platoon Standard Bearer.

Work is continuing with world eaters. But I just wanted to get started on my militia as well. So in this small militia escalation campaign we will have 3 gateways. First on 300p. Second on 500p and third on 750p.

For my HQ choice in the first step I have picked a platoon command cadre.

It is cheap, adds some need dakka and gives a higher leadership bobble around it self.

This is my platoon commander and my platoon standard bearer. I am happy with the the style I now have established. Going for something like a WW1-sci-if theme.

Horus Heresy. World eaters. Land raider.

This one when quite quick. It was already more or less painted, but for word bearers. After trying my duo land raider combo with word bearers and failing with it over and over, I figured world eaters could put it to better use.

Now the color scheme is very much late heresy and that is by design. I can’t help my self. I love to paint different things and different color schemes. I like it and I think the army looks a little more interesting.

Horus Heresy. World eaters. Assault squad. Part 2.

I consider the assault squad done. Fun to gore things up for a change :) .

I have also added some pictures of the rest of the army that I have painted up so far. This squad and the HQs have been shown here before but I thought it was nice to see them all together.

Next up is a terminator squad and a land raider. I am still waiting on some bits for my second assault squad and some parts for my predators :) .

Horus Heresy. World eaters. Assault squad. Part 1.

Things happen quickly sometimes. Life can take you by surprise and can change the path you once were sure was the right one. You can resist it and force yourself to bend things too your desires. With risk of failing and be crushed on the rocks. Or you can be like water and follow the stream and go around the obstacle without pain or incident.
Dramatic words for a hobby blog. But my life has had a little bump in the road that I did not foresee, and it have forced me to adapt. This bump has effected all of my life and of course my hobby as well.

My previous plan of going full steam ahead with mechanicum have changed. Yet again my mechanicum force must wait. Hopefully it won’t need to wait until next year but as things have shaped up to be, that’s what I am expecting.

But a life without hobby would feel very dull so new plans had to be made and I have been taking some time to think about the new direction.

2018 will for the most part be about iron warriors. Adding units when I have the chance and play them as much as I can. With that said I have some new projects lined up. Iron warriors will be the primary force this year but I will try to run them with allies and build up additions to the force. Mechanicum works perfect for this with the fact that they are sword brothers with iron warriors. This means I don’t need to add anything to them. I will of course try to expand them during the year as much as I can.

Looking at what have laying around in my hobby cave however I realize I have a chance to build a 2000-2500p astartes force. With the new plan of focusing on iron warriors I started to go through my options. Eventually I landed on world eaters. Also, sword brothers to iron warriors so they work perfectly as allies.

In the beginning of this year me and my gaming group also came up with the fantastic ide of running a mini campaign with militia. The plan is to build a 750p force worth of militia and then duke it out with some milita vs militia action. Militia also being great for iron warriors I start to see the new direction quite clearly.

So, there you have it. Most of my year will probably be adding to iron warriors and build world eaters and milita. And as you can see below I have already stated 😊 .

Horus Heresy. Mechanicum. Knight atrapos. Part2.

Slow slow progress but still progress. Sometimes life gets in the way.

If everything goes well the knight will be finished this week. That’s what I am hoping anyway :) .

the more I work on this model the more I feel I want to go a different road with it.

instead of adding glowing guns and popping lenses I think I will keep it very much as it is. Dirty, rusty and weathered. Like it is an old knight just starting up or as an old relic that walks once more with a new master. Something like that.

It might have been taken out during a long lost campaign and are just discovered by its new master.

Goodbye 2017. Hello 2018!

2017 are coming to a close and 2018 will take it’s place.

In the end of 2016 me and my gaming group decided to start a escalation campaign. After some times thinking my choice landed on word bearers. I never were the biggest fan of the lore for word bearers, but the hobby possibilities for the legion seemed endless.

One year later I sit and look at the year in review and on an 3000+ army of Lorgar and friends. I must say the legion this far have been so much fun to build. And at the last week of the year I really came to love the lore for word bearers as well. My appreciation for the background story actually comes from a very unlikely source.

The tv series Vikings. With most legions you can link the background and lore with something real and historical from “our world”. For word bearers the only parallel I could make, was too hell and stuff like that.

Now I am not particularly religious but I really don’t like the concept of being evil for the sake of being evil. And because of my limited experience with word bearers the lore never sat right with me. But all that changed with one episode of Viking. Now if this is the right way to view word bearers or not I don’t really care about. It makes a lot of sense to me.

In the episode of Vikings a warrior bishop gets captured by Ivar the boneless and his forces. When Ivar approaches the bishops snarled “heathen”. Ivar just smiles and answer half whisper “Christian”. Both just as sure of their religion and beliefs. Both convicted about their gods and their power. Now Viking was not evil in the seance that they spread death and chaos for the sake of spreading death and chaos. They followed their culture and their gods. We might not see that this way was particularly “nice”, from were we are today. But Vikings themselves did not view them selfs as evil or as heathens.

This is very much how I view word bearers today, in a way at least. Word bearers are more like Vikings that found their gods and less like evil hell spawns. Just as for the Vikings sacrifices was necessary both to please the gods and to get their blessings.

The chaos gods might not be particularly pleasant to be around and are more hellish then anything else. But still these gods are real and they are the truth. In the world of 30k that is.

So I now see my legion more like Vikings that found the land of the gods and less like fanatics. They truly follow the truth and accept it for what it is, embracing it and use it.

Just writing this makes me kind of inspired to swing by forge world and order more stuff for my boys in dark red and silver trim.

But anyway 2017 was the year of my word bearers and that leads me to next year and 2018.

What plans do I have for the coming year?

My beloved iron warriors have been sitting in the backseat for a long time now. And even if I would love to expand them to an insane degree I have other things that have been waiting on my attention for even longer.

2018 will be the year of my Mechanicum! 3 years of collecting have ended up in a 2600p force. It is time to make the final push for 3000p and beyond. This will be my main priority and goal for the coming year.

But of course all my other legions will get love and attention.

For iron warriors I have a couple of list ideas that I want to realize and test. The one that I have closest to my heart is a terminator heavy list, backed up by heavy gun support.

For Word bearers I need to play the list I have a few times before I can see where I will go next. Adding small additions and swapping units in and out to try to make them an effective force.

Black shields will also get some small additions. Building them slow and start to bridge them in a direction where I eventually can run them as world eaters.

So all and all there will not be anything new that will be started. It will more be a year of finishing and expanding.

Mechanicum will be the main focus and all other legions will slowly follow.

It really feels like I need to dedicate the year for Mechanicum if I will have a chance to learn that force. With so many special rules and exotic gear I can’t divide my attention to much on other projects to begin with. I really look forward for the coming year and I am sure it will be a great year for Horus Heresy.

I will also try to attend more events this year. Starting with a big 25000p battle at my local gaming club the 6 Jan. I will head there with 3500p of word bearers. Hopefully I can make the gods pleased with my efforts in the battle to come.

Happy new year! Hope you get a wonderful year full of hobby and Heresy!

Word Bearers. Gal Varbak. Conversion.

So, final project before 2018. Five Gal varbak to increase the squad to ten strong.

This was quite a project. I love the new death guard models for 40k and wanted to add some to an army. But I do not play 40k at the moment and the death guard models is to corrupted to be normal legion marines. The models are also to small to use as Gal varbak straight of the bat. So I need to make them bigger. After I found five tartaros terminators I came up with the idea of combining the two model kits.

After some work and a lot of green stuff the final results are done. I am happy with the end result and thinks it looks good with the original models from FW.

Now I have been thinking of getting five more Gal varbak for a small five man/monster squad. I just love theses models. For that unit I think I will get the FW models and try to converter/changes them so they also feel like individuals beside the ten I already own.

Word Bearers. Contemptor.

This was a very quick project. The background to this project was this. I had my first 3000p game with my word bearers last weekend. Sadly I got destroyed without being able to do anything about it. Poor deployment, tactics, list and luck made my efforts underwhelming.

Right after the game I felt really devastated. But on my way home I went over the game once more in my head. Yes the list could get a lot of improvement but it can’t be the only reason for my gigantic loss.

So some small changes had to be ade. Now with this contemptor I have not solved all my issues. But it will improve the list together with some more worked out tactics. Hopefully this will make things a little better :) .
