Merry Christmas to everyone! Regardless for what reason you might enjoy this festive time or if you don’t, I want to send you my best wishes.
Merry Christmas!
Lately me and a friend have talked about going back and start playing warhammer 40K 2ed again.
This have me super excited. I so look forward to take my orks out to the battle field again!
It might not be super clean or extremely balanced. But it is the most fun game that I have ever played.
Warhammer 40K 2ed have a whole lot of soul and have a character to it that no other edition have managed to retain.
For me, everything started with this book.
And I have not come across any thing like it since.
So rich in flavor and so complete in its content, that flipping through the pages all this time later is still a pleasure.
Now, I know that not everyone agree with me. I know 9ed is vastly popular and is thought of as one of the best editions to date. It is all very subjective.
This is the greatest part of our hobby. As long as you have a likeminded friend you don’t have to choose :) . I don’t like modern 40K. I don’t have to, and no one needs to feel bad for not agreeing with me. As long as we are a community we can enjoy the hobby together, each one there own way.
Do you have a old favorite edition that you miss?
Or a game you want to play again?
But no matter what edition you like the most or what games you like to play. Print this and put it into any rules book you have. It should be printed in the beginning of any game.
Continuing with these little guys. Come to think about it, the second edition gretchin might be the first model I ever painted.
Blocked in all the colors on one model. Just have to do the rest and then start with some oil paints.
Despite the thick base coat, I think these will look nice.
And here is the colors I have used. White base coat + camo shade for the skin. Now this is just the basing step so nuances will most likely change on most of the colors. But the basics is out of the way so I can start with the fun stuff.
Anyone that have followed my blog have probably noticed that I have been working on my own game.
This is nothing serious to be honest. Or…well I do take it seriously. I love the process and I enjoy the game. But I don’t have any bigger ambitions than creating something for my own enjoyment.
The game has gone through a lot of changes lately and I have to say, I really really enjoy it now.
The biggest issue that I have faced during the “development” is falling in love with the initial creation only to get bored by it moments later. To make something from your own ideas and see it work, really mess with your judgment, you kind of always love your own inventions I guess.
The trick I found is to let the game sit for a couple of weeks and then see it with new eyes. This have helped me to identify a lot of issues with the game.
Some of the game mechanics which I have faced most difficulties with have been the enemy’s activation. How to make a solo game engaging in all a phase, how to add a sense of choice and decision making where you normally would have a friend challenge your tactics. I mean, how can I replace a good friend and a sharp mind with a game mechanic? But I think that I have solved it, at least it is way more engaging than before, and it actually feels like a nice part of the game rather than a chore that needs to be done. It certainly doesn’t replace a good friend, but the absence of one is less profound.
Honestly, there is something strange about enjoying a tabletop miniature game all alone. Solving a difficult situation and win the mission only to celebrate without anyone there to cheer you on.
So no, this game won’t replace anyone, but dare I say, it comes very close to it. Yes, I am biased, and it is very subjective. But this is how I feel about it.
There have been times where I am explaining to my spouse about this awesome game I had and how it all came down to the final dice roll. Only to be meet with rolling eyes and a pat on the head, haha. A grown man, locked in his hobby dungeon playing with his toy soldiers… it is almost sad when I think about it…if it wasn’t for the fact that I have a great time in my own company, so I guess it is her loss for not joining me 😉.
Now, the game is far from done and far from perfect. But if you are curious about it you can download it for yourself and try it out.
I also have to say that the miniatures from the skirmish games Moonstone (Goblin King Games) and Malifaux (Wyrd Games) works perfectly with Kuggköping. I have no connections to any of the companies or the games (other than being a fan). But I think both are doing a great line of models. I got the start box for Moonstone a while back. I love the style and the concept. Sadly, I have not been able to try it yet. But maybe 2022 will be the year. I sincerely hope so!
So, my life is like many others, filled with stuff to do. It feels like the older you get the less energy you have and the more you need to get done, hahaha.
I am middle of life, two kids, one house, a lovely spouse, a boatload of dogs and grown-up problems with a limited time to do what you want.
Now I have a quite good life, I am not complaining, but it leaves just so much time for hobbies.
Despite all above I do mange to squeeze in some hobby time every day, even if it is reduced to 10min some days.
I kind of need my toy soldiers and my fantasy worlds to remain sain, it is almost like meditation most of the time.
And one might underestimate how much you can get done by just being consistent in doing something every day.
Over the week end , I finished up my Zoraida and friends. I went back to her to add some details and some colors. She looked fine before, but it was just something missing. I think she looks much better now.
Also managed to finish the Waldgeists bases. I use clear UV resin from greenstuff world for the water. Living in Sweden this time of the year means very restricted sunlight…and being at work most of the day, it also means I only see daylight on the weekends haha. But I had some time and plenty of sun yesterday, so I manged to finish the bases.
I also have started on some gretchins for my orks. Love these guys. I have tried to strip them the best I can, but it won’t get any better. It doesn’t really matter to me. I think I can give them an ok paint job despite the under-laying colors being a little thick.
A small update on my continuation of the Swampfiend keyword in Malifaux. Zoraida and her friendly swamp monster is more or less done. And work on her tree friends is coming along :) .
So, some more Malifaux on the painting table. This time some lovely gremlins and swamp reptiles :) .
I where lucky enough to trade my self to a ton of Malifaux models. First of all I painted up Vasilisa. Lovely models and fun on the table.
The updating of my Horus Heresy legions continue. For the last couple of weeks I have been busy updating my Iron Warriors armor. Trying to tie everything together and going all in on a trench theme. The 4th is my primary legion and I want to give them the love and care that they deserve :) . Some of the design elements is heavily influenced by Warhammer 40K, second edition and a specialy the second edition chaos codex.
For some time now I have been updating some of my paint schemes on some of my legions. Starting with my Word Bearers and now continuing with the World Eaters.
There is not that much to say really. Adding surface highlights and fixing details :) . First up is my assault squad.
Finished at last. This have to be the most enjoyable models to both build and paint for adeptus titanicus so far. Easy to put together and iconic.
I have primed and base colored the rest of the weapons, but at this point in time I don’t really see the use of any other weapons combinations.
Next reinforcements to my titan legion. Out of all my Titans I feel that these have been most fun to build and paint so far.
Next up will be oils and details.
Here we have the two Geryons for my Euripides crew. Even if I had some problems with the airbrush compressor I think they turned out ok.
And here is the whole family :) .
Started to add paint to the latest addition to my Euripides crew. Two wired monster trolls, things :) . Trying to be as true to the box art as I can. Added some ropes to hide most of the split lines.
For paint scheme I primed them black and Zenit sprayed white before adding thicker oil paint layers. First removing paint where it is needed then working in surface highlights. Quite easy but takes a little time due to drying times :) .
I decided to add some camouflage to my Iron Warriors Medusa. I did like the conversation as it was, but compared to the legion Medusa I already have it felt a little small.
So I added some camo to bulk the tank out some.
I really like how this turned out. Thinking on adding camouflage to some more tanks. We will see where this leads :) .
A couple of days ago me and a friend played a game of Titanicus. One and a half year has passed since I last played with my big robots and it was finally time to get a game in.
we had a small skirmish with about 1200p on each side to get into the game again.
This time I made a proper list with a legion traits and all. And tried to play with some sort of a plan in mind.
My warlord and two reavers faced off against two reavers two warhounds and a warbringer.
We played with the open ear card deck and the primary mission was to hold the middle of the table. Secondary mission was to bring two pick two Titans secretly and bring them down to critical damage without destroying them.
My Titans was out numbered and in part out gunned. I had my warlord with double belicosa volcano cannons to make up for it.
I purchased up aggressively with one of my reavers with the hopes to bring the melta canon within range. Setting up one of the enemies reavers with my warlord and then finish it with my reaver. A nice thought but my reaver took heavy gunfire coming in from my opponents warhounds. One with double volcan mega bolters and one with a mega bolter and a plasma. This ate through the reavers voids with ease and left my reaver out inte the open. Next turn the reactor went super nova and the first titan kill was scored.
The enemy had easily taken control over the center objective, taken out one of my Titans and was now hunting my second reaver.
I started to focus on the second mission and this was relatively easy for me to achieve. But on turn three I realized I had no chance to take back the game. I only had one last gamble and that was to take one titan down and hope it would create a chain reaction among its own line and open up the center. With only two Titans my options was limited.
I did everything I could, but my warlords shoots went wide and my crazy gamble had failed. With no more cards to play I had lost the game.
Only one Titian kill had been achieved but most Titans was smoking wreckes with a heartbeat away from erupting.
A very fun game that ended 15-10 to infernus.
I learned a lot from that game and have a couple of ideas on how to make better use of my Titans and legion ability’s. I also learned that warhounds can be incredibly effective. So I started assembling my next Titans right away :) .
I have one more titanucus game coming up next week and I have signed up to an titanicus event in the end of august.
But now I will continue with my family vacation and enjoy some care free days in the south of Sweden :) . Ending it here :) .
A new version of Kuggköping is out :D. Alpha 3.0 is finaly ready for the world.
There have been a lot of changes to the game. One of the aims have been to make each phase a little more engaging. There is a lot to say about what I have changed, edited, or updated but why not try it for yourself?
I appreciate all and any respectful feedback.
http://notacollector.com/kuggkping-the-game
Here is a short description of the game, maybe this is something you would enjoy?
Kuggköping is a solo/cooperative game set in the wondrous and
whimsical city of kuggköping.
You will pick one or more characters and headout into the city to
explore and discover the hidden secrets of the city.
The game is played with any models that you might have in your
miniature collection, with friends or in your own company.
You will pick your characters and go on random missions with
random end conditions. Between games you will level up your
characters, assign new upgrades and head out once more.
When you and your characters feel confident enough you might want
to try your luck with one of the end game missions. Once all end
game missions have been completed you have completed the game of
Kuggköping.
The game is meant to be difficult at times. The dangers are many
and your outcome is uncertain. Sometimes the “deck” is stacked
against you.
If you enjoy crunchy games, like older games from the 80s and 90s.
Rolling on multiple tables and flipping through rules. Creating
characters and leveling them up. Reading through silly stories and
whimsical artwork. Fighting an asymmetrical uphill battle. Then
this game is for you.
Good luck in the city and hope you find many riches...and that you
make your way back alive.
This will be just a small little update. Adding the forth contemptor to my Iron Warriors ranks. Lately I have been everywhere and nowhere hobby wise. Doing it all but not completing anything. Sometimes that’s better than nothing :) .
”Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes”
A little update on my Word Bearers termination squad and terminator praetor. The terminators was already painted up all I have done is to add oils and decals. Not just oil washes but also adding highlights, leans glows and surface highlights. This is another example on how you can use oils on miniatures. It is quite easy to just add to already existing paint schemes. In fact this will most likely be my approach going forward. Acrylic base and then continue and finish with oils. Any way, ending it here :) .
A Toast to the Guns
By them we live,
For them we would die.
Whatever the Mission,
We’ll give it a try. We’ll serve them with Honor
For they are the ones;
That make us Artillerymen,
So here’s to the Guns:
TO THE GUNS!!
There we go, two artillery tanks done and ready for the battlefield. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have used a lot of oils for this particular project not just to wash the models but also painting. It is a very enjoyable process and incredibly easy. The only downside is that it takes some extra time to dry. But it is also the drying time that is the big advantage. You can change, add, remove and add to your paint scheme without worrying about if what you are doing will work or not. There is plenty of time to explore and experiment before you settle for a final result.
If you haven’t tried it I highly recommend you do. I am sure I will use it more often from now on.
